Sunday at the Cnocnafeola Centre was a real community effort.  Local people gave of their time and talents to organise a stew, coffee day and raffle.

There was also an excellent showing of photographs from the recent opening of the new Church. All those who participated enjoyed the food, the craic and the odd good yarn. It all helped those abandoned and devastated by the recent earthquake. The total amount raised was £3900.  This has been sent to Gena Hearty who has spent the past 16 years working with abandoned children in Haiti. She runs a special needs home for abandoned children with physical and mental disabilities in an orphanage at Kenscoff. Gena who comes from Westport Co.Mayo has a special fund set up through which money goes directly to the children for whom she cares. Asked yesterday whatever people might do to help she said “Pray hard and donate whatever you can no matter how small”.

Cnocnafeola would like to express their sincere thanks to all who supported their event, to all who sent donations and items for a raffle. Their appreciation also to the St.Vincent de Paul Society, James Cunningham Butcher and also Mc Kee Milk.
