Long seen as a means of promoting quality, equity and mutual self-help, the credit union movement has enjoyed remarkable success in Northern Ireland thanks in no small part to backing from powerful community advocates.
Over recent years, many have outgrown their image as a 'poor man's' bank by attracting customers from an ever-widening socio-economic spectrum. As a result, they are now regarded as a vitally important source of affordable credit.
Today the Ulster Federation of Credit Unions goes from strength to strength and is a fast growing community enterprise. Member credit unions can be found throughout the province, from Londonderry to Kilkeel, Enniskillen to Carrickfergus and all points in between.
Launching the new site Ulster Federation Chairman explains:
The new website is testament to the advancement of the credit union network, embracing new technology to improve services for more than 20,000 individual credit union members across Northern Ireland.
The 49 member credit unions supported by the federation will benefit from improved information for individuals who can access relevant forms and frequently asked questions to improve the services provided.
